Root Canals
There are many factors that could cause a tooth to need root canal therapy. For instance, a tooth that is broken, severely decayed, or otherwise damaged may need to undergo this procedure. Contrary to popular stigma, a root canal is actually a conservative therapy because it saves the tooth from extraction.
During a root canal, Dr. Roby removes the damaged or infected pulp and replaces it with a filling material that maintains the remaining tooth structure. Once this is completed and the tooth is feeling better, we will most often place a permanent crown on the tooth to prevent fracture or further damage.
Signs that your tooth may need a root canal:
- Spontaneous pain or throbbing while biting
- Severe decay or damage to the tooth
- Sensitivity to heat or cold
- Tooth pain that wakes you up at night
- Swelling
